What the Gospel Is

Throughout the day, I'm alerted to articles that talk about Christianity and Jesus, and I'm shocked, but not surprised, at what people really think about God of the Bible.
One thing I wish people would understand is that everyone who says they're a Christian is not (1 John 4:1-3). I'm a Christian and you would never see me protesting and screaming about gays like the members of the Westboro Church of Kansas do. I'm a Christian and you would never see me outside of an abortion clinic with a sign (instead, I would find an pro life organization that helped women with unplanned pregnancies).

Now, I'm not saying that genuine Christians can't state their opinions or point of views, but Jesus was not outside protesting with a sign. In the story about the woman caught in the midst of adultery, who were the ones hollering and judging? The people or Jesus? Jesus never once raised His voice to that woman, but He did tell her to 'go and sin no more'. There is a way to talk to people and get the gospel to them.

The point is, people who write articles attacking Christians based off of the bad actions of a few need to learn not to paint with a broad brush.

Just in case anyone has forgotten what the purpose of the gospel of Jesus Christ is:

  • The gospel is the good news and glad tiding of the kingdom of which Jesus preached.
  • The gospel is proclaiming that salvation, redemption, forgiveness, healing, freedom from bondage and remission of sin are all available through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  • The gospel is ALWAYS good news and glad tiding, and if anyone comes to you with something else always remember 1 John 4:1-3.
