Secrets within the Church

I read an article recently that talked about how Christians needed to stop seeing the church as a family. The premise is that “families” keep secrets (as well as; keep up appearances, breeds cliques, become territorial, etc).

And I agreed 100%.

I learned a secret about man in a church that I used to attend that cause me to not only lose respect for him, but to also feel sorry for his wife because she believed a lie that her husband had told her (and has been nasty and disrespectful to another woman, even after all of these years).

But the worst part is that multiple people know the truth!

This situation happened almost eight years before I even started attending the church. To be totally honest with you, I think I lost respect for most of the people who were close to all of the people involved and never said anything.

One of my mother's favorite scripture is Luke 12:1-3 which reads “In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, 'Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops'.”Even as a nonbeliever, my mother understands that.

I don't think that any church of God has been destroyed because they witnessed to the unsaved or fed the hungry. They were destroyed because sin was committed, lies were told, secrets were exposed and trust was broken.
